Grants & Bursaries

you are 16 by 30 September in the current school session, you can apply for a full year bursary. Also, if you are not 16 by 30 September but will have reached your 16th birthday by 28 February the following year, you can apply for a half year bursary payable from January.
A minimum of 21 hours of programmed study must be undertaken.
Assessment of a bursary award is based on the gross parental income for the previous year of the session applied for.
There are also other conditions to be met such as residency requirements, etc.
3. How much do I get as an award ?

Maximum payment is £16 per week which can be as much as £720 (total payment for maximum of 45 weeks) in a session. This will vary dependant on any assessed parental contribution.
4. How is a bursary award paid ?
Any award would be paid directly into your bank account on a four weekly basis.
5. How long would I have to wait to find out about a submitted application ?
Each award is looked at individually. Providing your form is completed correctly and all relevant documents enclosed, we would hope to let you know within 4 weeks.
6. What about confidentiality ?
The bursary service is dealt with in a confidential manner with each application assessed individually in line with the Council's policy and guidelines.

Grants are available for any child who will attend a North Ayrshire Council School from August 2000 and whose parent(s) are in receipt of any of the following:

Income Support
Working Families' Tax Credit
(Families receiving full Tax Credit or if Credit is reduced by £70.00 or less)
Housing Benefit
Council Tax Rebate
Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
